Sewing Plans for the Fall
It feels like the less time I have to sew, the more I want to really focus on what I need vs. what I want. Ive been really trying to hone down on using the fabrics that I do have in my stash but also realizing that I do need a few items to make it thru the fall.
Here is what I’m planning.
A. Sepia pants from Closet Core Patterns - Its starting to get kinda cold. You know how it is as soon as the kids go back to school or Labor Day weekend rolls around and the weather magically changes from hot to mid 60’s in the morning to mid 70’s throughout the day. The shorts that I’ve been rocking are no longer getting it done.
I got this beautiful Bourbon Tencel Twill (now sold out) and Indigo Tencel Denim. from Cali Fabrics.
B. Shirting - I do love some good ol’ fashioned shirting and I really want something that will go well with these pants. Right now I’m working on The Scout Pattern from Merchant and Mills. It should be an easy sew. BUT we shall see with that placket and that pleat along with my Type-A tendencies that always feels it needs to be perfect. I already added 3” to the length as I want it to be JUST a touch longer. So 3” is my safety net on the length. I’m using some Ecru shirting that I have had on my stash for two years from Style Maker Fabrics. I see it on their Selvage Yard all the time and it is really nice. Just keep in mind it is 44” wide so if you buy it make sure to buy enough for your project.
C. Paynter Jacket from Merchant and Mills- It feels like quite the uphill battle because folks this is NOT a quick sew and I got some good fabric for this pattern. First of all, its a Unisex pattern (aka. made for men but we are gonna say that women can make it too!) and I’m fairly certain I will need to make adjustments to the shoulders and the sleeves so it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a football jacket that seems to large on me. I will have to make a muslin and those hip pockets don’t look like I will need to put on my big-girl-panties to knock out these pockets. There is even a tutorial online just for these along with the placket. So again, its not gonna be an easy sew and of course, lets see how I feel about it once I make a muslin and get the fit to the point I’m happy.
D. T-Shirts - There are never enough of these in my life and I gotta say I wear them quite often under a fleece jacket or a fall jacket. I got some beautiful cotton jersey fabric from Surge Fabric Shop and I will be making the Tess from Chalk and Notch cropped tshirt. It is exactly one yard of fabric.
I started this post mentioning that I wanted to make all the things but there is only so much time. Other things I want to make? A Pair of Rika Pants from Closet Core, The Thompson Coat (the lined version) from Daughter Judy Patterns and a beautiful knee length corduroy skirt I can wear with a pair of knee high boots and a warm sweater but time is of the essence. We shall see if I have enough time for it.
